Ozone Layer

Ozone is a gas present in the upper part of the stratosphere. The ozone layer is a belt of ozone gas, which absorbs about 98% of the devastating ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It absorbs these rays like a sponge. There exists a balance between conversion of oxygen to ozone and ozone to oxygen in the stratosphere. However, this balance is disturbed by the chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs: used as refrigerant in refrigeration industry). CFCs disrupt the ozone formation.
