Neil Alden Armstrong was born on 5th August 1930 in Ohio and he died on 25th August 2012 (aged 82 years) in Ohio, United States. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. He got his pilot’s licence at the age of 15 and later joined the navy as a fighter pilot. He went on to become a test pilot before he applied to become an astronaut and was selected by NASA in 1962. His first trip into space was aboard the Gemini 8. On 21st July 1969 he stepped onto the moon from his spacecraft Apollo 11 and stayed on the moon for 21 hours along with another astronaut Buzz Aldrin. They collected moon rocks.

Do you know: The footprints of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are still there on the moon as the dust is thick but there is no wind to blow it away.
