Muscles of Leg: There are different types of muscles in the leg. They are: quadriceps femoris, iliopsoas and sartorius in the front and the hamstrings and gluteus maximus at the back. These muscles at the front help bend the thigh, extending the leg at the knee, while those in the back help extend the thigh at the hip and bend the leg at the knee. All the leg muscles help maintain the proper posture and balance of the body.
Muscles of Foot and Toe
The muscles located at the lower side of the knee are responsible for the movement of the ankle, foot and toes. The foot muscles can be classified into two types: extrinsic and intrinsic muscles. These muscles originate on the frontal or back sides of the lower leg, and on the top or base sides of the foot, respectively. The flexor digitorumbrevis and its associated extensor muscles are responsible for the toe movement.
