Lock

The lock was first developed by the Greek, the Roman and the Egyptian civilizations. The first lock was found by an archeologist in Khorsabad palace in the city of Nineveh and estimated of being 4000 years ago. People are much concerned about their security no matter what the era is. Locks were known before Christ’s time but then the locks were big wooden blocks. Those locks were pin tumbler types, that is, there was a wooden lock strung from the door and pins were the key inserted in this lock. Pin tumbler locks were invented by the Egyptians. The Romans also invented their locks but being in iron metal they  got rusted and corroded easily. Hence, they are not in existence today. European locks consisted of ropes tied in elaborate knots. Those locks were also very easy to defeat just by rotating the keys to different angles. Robert Barron (1778) was the most famous and well-known lockssmith.
