Lighter

The first lighters were nothing but flintlock pistols that were first invented in the 16th century. One of the primary lighters ‘Dobereiner’s lamp’ which was invented in the year 1823 by Johann Wolfgang who was a German chemist. The lighter worked on the basis of the reaction of hydrogen to platinum sponge. This lighter was very big and unsafe as it used to give off an enormous heat. However, the lighter could not become a great hit to the market. In the year 1903, Carl Auer Von Welsback came up with a new lighter named Fersrocerium. The lighter was a great hit.

In the 1920s, flint wheel lighters became a great success and became the foremost lighter to create a mark. Later in 1930s, George G. Blaisdell came up with a new lighter which needed lots of improvement. Thereafter some big names came in the world of lighters that include Zippo, Ronson, Dunhill, St. DuPont and Colibri. In today’s lighter, piezoelectric spark is used.
