Leif Eriksson

Leif-Eriksson

Leif Eriksson was the son of Erik the Red and born in about 970 in Iceland and he died somewhere in 1020 (50 years) in Greenland. Said to have been the first person ever to have discovered North America when his ship was blown off course Leif Eriksson sighted land on the other side of Greenland and named it Vinland because the land was full of vines and grapes. He made a small settlement there called ‘Leif’s Booth’. He was commissioned by the King of Norway to spread Christianity.

Do you know: Leif is said to have beaten Christopher Columbus by at least 400 years in discovering America.
