Lake Baikal is a rift lake located in Siberia, Russia. Based on sheer volume, the Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world. With approximately 20% of the world’s unfrozen freshwater contained in this lake, Lake Baikal is not only the world’s deepest lake but also the clearest. Formed of an ancient rift valley, 25 million years ago, this crescent-shaped lake is considered the oldest lake in the world.
