Juan Ponce de Leon was born in 8 April 1460 in Santervas De Campos, Spain and he died in July 1521 (aged 61 years) in Havana, Cuba. Juan was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. Sailing to the New World Juan became the governor over a section of land which made him rich. In 1506, he reached Puerto Rico and discovered gold and fertile land. Establishing the first Spanish colony he became the first Governor of Puerto Rico. He also discovered a beautiful land and called it ‘La Florida’.
