Males were shiny and golden orange while females were olive with yellow rimmed red blotches. Females laid about 200 to 400 eggs at a time in temporary pools formed after the rain. It was last seen in 1989; fungal diseases and climatic changes are some of the reasons that were proposed as causes for their extinction.
