One day, Parvati sat deep in her thoughts. She was thinking about the pattabhishek (coronation) ceremony. Suddenly, a thought came to her mind. She decided that her son, Ganesha, should have a pattabhishek ceremony. Parvati soon sent out invitations to all the gods and the sages, as she wanted to celebrate the ceremony in a magnificent way. Ganesha, too, would be able to get everybody’s blessings. She chose beautiful, colourful clothes for him to wear for the occasion. But to her dismay, Ganesha dressed in white attire on the ceremony day. “Ganesha, I had picked up nice and colourful clothes for you to wear. Then why have you worn this white dress?” asked Parvati. “Mother, the clothes that you chose for me are very nice. It was so thoughtful of you. White signifies simplicity and purity. So I wanted to wear white for this special day,” Ganesha told Parvati.
