The sand skink is actually a lizard that looks more like a snake. Their reduced limbs that are well hidden, wedge-shaped heads and very long tails help them swim like eels in sand and in burrowing. They are active in the day feeding on insects’ larvae, termites and spiders. They live for 8 to 10 years.
