Farmer Drew’s Reward

Farmer James Drew was a very quiet gentleman. Whenever anyone needed help, he was there. He was, however, rather lonely, for he lived alone on his farm. After the day’s work was done, his helpers went away and he sat reading and smoking his pipe. He had a talent, for he played the flute. Sometimes, passers-by would hear the sweet melody from his farmhouse. The banker, Mr Fenley, had a lovely daughter named Cindy who had just returned from the city where she had been studying. Cindy had heard Farmer Drew’s flute and fell in love with him. One day, a large bag with money in it was stolen from the bank. The police began searching for it and Drew also helped. Soon he found the money hidden in the hollow of a tree. Mr Fenley wished to reward him, but he refused. He did make friends with Cindy. Now she was Mrs Drew!
