Native to : Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Israel and Egypt

Interesting fact : It is a look-alike of the southern smooth snake and hence named the false smooth snake to differentiate from it.

Conservation status : Least Concern

These small and slender snakes are only 55 cm long. With a shiny grey body, it is quite smooth and has a distinct black collar at the neck. These mildly venomous snakes strike and inject venom with their fangs but are not harmful to humans. They adapt well to many habitats and prefer sand lizards and geckos as food.
