They live in a unique habitat surrounded by short oak trees called shinnery oak around depressions caused in sand dunes due to the wind. The belly of the male is blotched in blue while the female has pink markings on the neck and sides. These small, 7 cm lizards eat insects and live only for 1 to 2 years.
