Olympic game, which is also called Pan-Hellenic Games, was firstly held in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and continued till Theodosius I stopped it after 393 AD. It was then restarted after 1503 years, in 1896, by Baron Pierre de Coubertin and from that time it is held every 4 years and lasts for one week.
Earlier, it was not taken as just a game but was a religious festival to honour god Zeus. In initial 13 Olympic games, only sprint was the event but later, more events were added from time to time.
It is also said that Olympic games started with mission to bring peace as in Olympic game events any person of any city, state, etc can take part and win; even enemy states were allowed to participate. However, in Olympic game events women were not allowed to participate but now they can too.
