Can we grow a new plant from a cutting? This simple experiment is all about it.
Things Required:
House plant, such as ivy
Scissors
Jar
Directions:
Cut off a stem with leaves from the plant. Place the cut end of the stem in a jar filled with water. Observe the bottom of the stem for several days.
This Is What Happens:
Tiny roots start to grow on the stem.
Science Beind It:
Many house plants and, especially, ivy will easily form roots on cut stems. This is one way in which plants produce new plants other than by the growth of the seed. For the plant top to continue to grow, it must be planted in soil.
