Blockage of coronary arteries is also called CAD or coronary heart disease. It is the most common cause of illness and death. This disease is a group of problems that occur when the heart and blood vessels are not working the way they should.
The disease occurs when our arteries become narrowed due to gradual build-up of fatty material within their walls. The initial stage is indicated by the occurrence of angina. Angina or chest pain occurs when the heart does not have enough oxygen; this in extreme stages leads to a heart attack. During a heart attack, the heart does not get any oxygen at all. During a heart attack, some of the heart muscles can die due to the lack of oxygen. The major causes of CAD are lifestyle issues (sedentary lifestyle) and bad food habits. This problem can be averted by having a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle can decrease the risk of CAD. For example: being physically active, eating a healthy diet that is low in fat, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol use, etc.
