Chinese Alligator

Chinese-Alligator

Common name : China alligator, Yangtze alligator

Scientific name : Alligator sinensis

Family : Alligatoridae

Native to : China

Interesting fact : Once the eggs hatch, the mother carries the baby alligators to the water and that marks the end of parenting. The babies are on their own after that.

Conservation status : Critically Endangered

At only 5 feet long, they are small alligators with typical upturned noses and narrow snouts. They are totally covered in scales from head to tail. The cold winters are spent inside burrows dug with their strong claws and summers are spent basking in the sun. Baby alligators hatch out of their eggs in 70 days.
