Buxus is an evergreen broadleaf shrub. It is very compact, grows wider than tall, and the annual growth rate is about 25 mm. This plant is extremely hardy and is a good choice for northern climates. The greenish yellow flowers appear in early spring. The fruit is inconspicuous. The flowers are insignificant but quite fragrant. The leaves are small, obovate, medium and green in colour. Boxwoods have lots of utility in the garden. They are ideal for formal hedges and foundation plantings. They are also excellent plants for bonsai and topiary.
