The Certhia Americana (scientific name) or brown creeper is a tree-creeper generally found only in moist coniferous forests of North America. This songbird is small, measuring only 5.3 inches in length. It has brown upperparts with white spotting, giving it the resemblance of a tree-bark. The underparts are white. The tail is long and stiff to help its upward creeping movements on a tree. The beak is long and thin and bent downwards slightly. They do not eat on the ground but rather creep upwards on trees to forage for insects. During winters they are known to eat seeds. An average clutch has 3-7 eggs, incubated for 2 weeks. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
