Black-winged Red Bishop

The Euplectus Hordeaceus (scientific name) or black-winged red bishop is found in the tall grasslands of tropical Africa. Prior to this, they were known as the Fire-crowned bishop in Southern Africa. With a height of 5.9 inches at the most, they are the largest of the bishop birds. This stocky bird is scarlet in plumage (breeding male) with black wings, belly, face and a brown tail. The non-breeding male and female are more yellow-brown in colour. Its diet consists of seeds, grains and insects. Nests are woven in a spherical shape in tall grass, and the clutch-size is 2-4 eggs, which are incubated for 12-13 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
