Scientific name : Vulpes lagopus
Family : Canidae
Native to : Iceland
Conservation status : Least Concern
Found in the Arctic temperatures, which are some of the most challenging, the Arctic fox lives in a vegetation free zone. In fact, they are the only land mammals found in Iceland. Their natural shaded coat blends in with the snow and ice topography of the tundra. In warmer seasons, it changes to a brown or grey shade, just like the surroundings. The staple diet of the fox is lemming–a type of rodent. They eat the leftover scraps of the polar bear or hunt rodents, fish and birds in spring.
