Amazonian Poison Frog

Amazonian-Poison-Frog

Common name : Reticulated poison frog/thumbnail poison frog

Scientific name : Dendrobates ventrimaculatus/Ranitomeya Ventrimaculata

Family : Dendrobatidae

Native to : South America

Interesting fact : After hatching, the cannibalistic tadpoles are carried to separate puddles or bromeliad plants by their male parents, so they don’t kill one another.

Conservation status : Least Concern

A colourful frog, just the size of a thumbnail, but highly toxic to the touch. In fact, their bright colour keeps predators away. With a black body, bright yellow stripes and blue net-like patterns on the leg, it is a treat to the eyes and makes a good vivarium pet. They love tropical rainforests and feed on insects.
