The Altamira Cave is the first cave in which prehistoric cave paintings were discovered. It is located in Cantabria, Spain. The Cave paintings may have been 35,600 years old, but no scientific evidence has been made.
Why they are special: The Altamira Cave paintings are the first Upper Paleolithic or Palaeolithic cave paintings with the drawings of mammals and human hands. Their existence has revised the understanding of Neanderthals and also changed the assumption that these paintings were done by the sapiens.
