They are bred mainly for the fibre, not for use as beasts of burden. Since they are too tiny to be used as pack animals, their fibre and meat are in demand. They create piles of dung, like a communal toilet, away from the grazing grounds to prevent the spread of parasites. The young ones are called ‘cria’.
