Albino Black Rat Snake

Common name : Texas rat snake, Pilot black snake

Scientific name : Elaphe o. obsoleta

Native to : Central North America

Interesting fact : They pretend to be venomous by rattling their tails.

Albinos are white and not black as they lack the enzyme for the black pigment. Experts at climbing up trees, they squeeze their prey till they suffocate and die. Rodents make up their meal. Flicking their tongues in the air, they can sense predators and prey. As they are not poisonous and come in many different colours, they make good pets.
