This shy freshwater turtle’s favourite pastime is basking on logs along the edges of ponds, streams and rivers. The top of the shell has red stripes and the belly is red. During winter they hibernate in the muddy bottoms of rivers. The young ones hatch from eggs laid in sandy soil after 10 to 16 weeks. They live for 40-55 years.
