Henny Hen was very happy. She had laid thirteen eggs. She had hatched twelve chicks. Now, only one was left. But the weather was so cold that Henny Hen was finding it hard to keep the thirteenth egg warm. So, Farmer Dick had an idea. He took his hat and put the unhatched egg in it. Then he took the egg near the fire. Henny Hen and the other animals followed him into the house. Farmer Dick laid the egg beside the fire. Everyone sat back and waited. Just then the egg began to hatch. Out popped the thirteenth chick. Henny Hen was very happy to see her last chick. The chick quickly came running to her. “I always knew this was the best place on the farm for hatching eggs,” smiled Farmer Dick. Henny Hen thanked Farmer Dick with a big cluck cluck.
