Once, a white elephant was hurt. He came limping where some carpenters were working. The carpenters saw that his foot was swollen and sore. There was a splinter in the sore foot. They pulled it out and washed the sore carefully. Thankful for the cure, the elephant thought, “These carpenters have done so much for me. Now, I will help them.” So, the elephant started helping the carpenters. Sometimes, when the trees were chopped, he would roll the logs down to the river. At other times, he brought their tools for them. In turn, the carpenters used to feed him well. One day, the king came down the river and saw the beautiful white elephant. The king at once wanted the elephant and paid the carpenters a great price for him. The king was proud of his new elephant and took good care of him as long as he lived.
