Whales and dolphins are well-known ocean animals. Whales are found in all the major oceans of the world, from the Arctic and Antarctic oceans to the oceans and seas around the centre of the equator. Whales and dolphins frequently come on the ocean surface for air, because they breathe through lungs. They are categorised under mammals. The offspring of whales and dolphins feed on their mothers’ milk. The biggest animal on the Earth is the Blue Whale. It is 28 metres in length. A social group of a dolphin is called a pod and they hunt together for food such as squid or schools of smaller fish.
A baby whale is called a calf. The blue whale’s calf feeds on mother’s milk for about eight months.
