Adelei Penguins and Birds

Adelei Penguins, the sliding and diving birds, are the main inhabitants of the Antarctic. They cannot run or walk very fast, but they slide well on smooth ice surface on their bellies and can travel a long distance like this. Their wings are in form of flippers that help them to swim in the icy water. They swim at a speed of 40 kmph while catching prey or escaping from a predator. They build nests on small stone-shaped rocks. Birds near the Antarctic can be seen during the spring time. More than 100 kinds of birds visit the Antarctic coastline and offshore islands. Most of the birds fly over the ocean towards the Antarctic to build their nests over the wide open area. A few species of the birds found in the Antarctic region are albatrosses, petrels, skuas, gulls and terns.
