Why does it hurt to get water up your nose?

Inside part of our nose is full of nerve endings and has a salt concentration of less than 1%. When water goes in our noses, it shocks our system due to the extreme difference of temperatures between the inside of the nose and the water outside. The blood vessels inside the nose constrict and the salt concentration differs between the water and inside of the nose. The uncomfortable feeling is also because the water flows into our cells to equalize the differences in temperature, the salinity and constricting blood vessels.
