Why do Children Lose their Milk Teeth?

Children lose their milk teeth as they grow up because their gums and jaw size increase with age. The loosening of primary teeth occurs at the age of 6 to 7 years and because the jaw or jaw muscles cannot take in permanent teeth, the root of the milk teeth is reabsorbed. The first teeth to fall are central incisors on the lower jaw and first molars. As soon as the primary tooth falls, the root of the permanent teeth takes its place and starts developing till the early teen age.

The adult teeth need guidance as they start growing after the fall of the milk teeth and take their position in the jaw. The permanent tooth comes out of the gum and, therefore, the process of new teeth eruption starts as soon as the old teeth fall. As the child grows, the jaw and its musculatures mature and gain the strength required to hold the new set of permanent teeth.
