Who is the Donkey?

Who-is-the-Donkey?

Once Krishnadeva went to the river with his two sons and wise Minister Tenali. On the bank of the river, the king and his two sons took off their clothes and asked Tenali to take care of them while they took a bath in the river.

Tenali was waiting for them to come out of the river. All the clothes were on his shoulder. Looking at Tenali standing like this, Krishnadeva felt like teasing him, so he said to him, “Tenali, you look like as if you were carrying a washerman’s donkey load.” Tenali quickly retorted, “Sir, a washerman’s donkey carries only one donkey’s load; I am carrying three donkey’s load.” Krishnadeva was speechless. He didn’t know what to say. He came out of the river, with his head hung in shame. Without saying anything to Tenali he returned to the palace.
