The largest cricket stadium in the world is Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia. It has the capacity of around 100,000 spectators. It also holds the world record for the highest light towers at any sporting venue. It has been the home of Australian football since 1859 and was the birthplace of Test Cricket in 1877, and One-day International Cricket in 1971. It was the main stadium for the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. Ahmedabad, India, will soon get the world’s largest cricket stadium leaving the MCG far behind. The Sardar Patel Stadium in Montera, Ahmedabad, is being renovated to accommodate over 1 lakh spectators.
