What is Satire?

Satire is a mode of communication where ‘wit’ is used for exposing someone’s foolishness, negative trait or silly acts etc. Satires often are means of provoking society, government or individuals to better themselves. For example, satires are used for ridiculing a government when it is not working for the welfare of its citizens. It is a kind of art form used by some artists, authors and actors. In the seventeenth century, a number of satires were written. Moliere, Voltaire and Jonathan Swift (Gulliver’s Travels) have been great satirists of their eras.
