Rubber is an elastic substance which can be stretched easily. There are two types of rubbers: natural rubber and synthetic rubber. Natural rubber is a sticky, elastic substance obtained from latex, a milky liquid. Latex is found in a few tropical plants (natural rubber), like shrubs, vines and trees of various kinds. Mostly, it is found in the trunk of the natural rubber tree and in the inner bark of its branches. It is only one-third rubber, while two-thirds is water. Rubber trees are found in hot, moist climates. Fossils of rubber plant indicate its existence as far back as three million years ago. Another form of rubber is synthetic rubber. Synthetic rubber is derived from petroleum and natural gas. Both natural and synthetic rubbers are used in tyres, football, etc.
