What are Vitamins?

Vitamins are an important group of substances found in food. The word ‘vita’ means life. They are necessary for healthy life. Our body needs them in tiny quantities to continue the vital processes of the body. Vitamins are either water-soluble or fat-soluble. Vitamins are named as A, B, C, D, etc. Vitamin A is found in milk, egg yolk, carrots, spinach, etc. Vitamin B is a group of six different vitamins called B1, B2, B12 etc. Vitamin B1 is found in milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, and cereals. Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits like oranges, kiwis, etc. Vitamin D is present in sunlight, cod liver oil, etc; it makes bones strong.
