What are Radio Waves?

Radio waves are electromagnetic radiations, mostly used for communication. They exist all around us in the form of vibrations received by cell phones, radio and television. These waves are converted into sound waves, which can be heard. Just like a pebble that creates a rippling effect when dropped in water, waves also radiate in all directions starting from the source. These signals travel in a straight line; however they get deflected from their path in the presence of clouds. James Maxwell gave a prediction about the existence of waves in 1864. In 1888, Heinrich Hertz actually showed us that waves do exist.
