You will need:

  1. Microscope
  2. A slide
  3. Small containers to place
    the water samples
  4. Ink-dropper
  5. Water samples from
    various sources (pond,
    tap, water purifier, etc.)
  6. Pen and paper

Water is the source of life for all of us, but even something as basic as water can become our enemy when it contains harmful bacteria and micro-organisms. Find out the clean water from the impure water through this experiment.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Collect water samples from various sources and
    keep them in labelled containers.
  2. Using an ink-dropper, place a small drop
    of any sample of water onto the slide and
    place the slide under a microscope.
  3. Keep the microscope on the highest setting.
  4. Observe the water sample under the
    microscope

RESULT

While some samples may be clean, other water samples may have various kinds of micro-organisms. Note down the types of micro-organisms visible to you in different water samples and take the help of an adult or a teacher to identify better these micro-organisms.
