Vulture

The Aegypius Monachus (scientific name) or vulture is divided into Old World vultures which are found across Asia, Africa and Europe, and the New World vultures which are found in warmer climates only in the Americas. While the height may vary, these birds have a formidable wingspan going up to 10-11 feet. Their plumage is generally in shades of black, white, grey, tan and brown. In most species, they have bald heads, so as to prevent blood from spreading on the hair. They also have a pouch-like formation in their throats to help store food, which they later regurgitate. They are carnivores which eat dead carcasses. An average clutch could have 1-2 eggs, incubated for 1-2 months depending on the species. Its IUCN listing is ENDANGERED.
