Vibheeshana

Like most courtiers, the men who spoke only flattering words wished to please Ravana. But Vibheeshana, his brother, spoke words of wisdom, not to please him but to point out right conduct to him. “What these people say is pleasant to hear but it is neither true nor good. We have done wrong by taking away Rama’s wife. Ever since she came here, we have seen bad omens and Lanka has been burnt down. We have seen what Hanuman is capable of and we have heard of Rama’s prowess from him and from our own warriors. Return Seeta to her husband,” pleaded Vibheeshana. For three days the council continued to meet and each day Vibheeshana requested Ravana to return Seeta to Sri Rama. Ravana awoke Kumbhakarna, his brother, and he too was present now in the court. Ravana was blinded with pride.
