Upolu is an Island formed as a result of a huge basaltic shield volcano. The Island is part of the Samoan Islands, in the Pacific Ocean. The Upolu Island along with the other Samoan Islands formed 5 million years ago.
Why it is special: Covering an area of 1,125 sq.km, the Upolu Island is the second largest of the Samoan Islands, whereas with a population of 1,35,000 people, it is the most populated of the Samoan Islands. This Island is also home to an extremely small species of a spider, which is the size of a full stop on a printed page.
