Can you tie separate streams of water together? In this simple and easy experiment, you can do so with little effort.
Things Required:
1 Styrofoam or paper cup (no less than 6 oz)
Pencil
Directions:
Punch four holes in the cup with the pencil. The holes are to be as close together as possible in a straight line at the base of the cup. Stand the cup on the side of a sink with the holes on the sink side. Fill the cup with water. Take your thumb and forefinger and pinch the four streams of water together.
This Is What Happens:
Water pours out of the four separate holes. Pinching the streams causes the streams to unite. If the holes are close enough, one stream forms. If not, two streams will be formed.
Science Behind It:
One water molecule has an attraction for another water molecule. These molecules will actually pull on one another and stick together.
