Underwater Crop Circles

These are intricate circles, reminiscent of the elaborate crop circles that sometimes turn up in farmers’ fields. In 1995, divers noticed a beautiful, strange circular pattern on the seafloor off Japan. It was found that the male puffer fish, only 5 inches long, laboriously flap their fins as they swim along the seafloor, resulting in disrupted sediment, thereby forming amazing circular patterns. Apparently, female puffer fish are attracted by grooves and ridges. They mate and lay eggs in the centre of these undersea circles. The rippling geometric sand patterns in these are nearly 6 ft in diameter and almost 80 ft below the sea level.
