The Ua Pou is the third largest island in the Marquesas group of islands. The Island is situated in the French Polynesia, which is the overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. The Ua Pou along with the rest of the Marquesas islands formed almost 5.5 to 0.4 million years ago.
Why it is special: Pointy missile-like basalt pillars that rise high up into the sky, provide the Ua Pou with a unique skyline. The constant swirling mist and specks of sunlight give the Island a picturesque look. To add to its beauty, the Ua Pou has beautiful valleys bursting with plants, beaches and interesting archaeological sites.
