Tomo, the King of the River

Tomo, the King of the River

Tomo was a sluggish hippo who used to do all his work sluggishly. He hated the summer season in which he felt so uncomfortable. Even a movement seemed to him very tough due to sweltering hot weather. So Tomo made a plan to spend the whole summer in a river. He went to a nearby river and lazed around in the river. All day he would lie in the muddy waters of the river. Now he had made up his mind that he was the king of the river. One day a lion went to the river to drink the water. He said Tomo to go away.

Tomo unwillingly came out from the river but the lion found the water too cold to touch and ran away. This made Tomo very delirious. Soon came a bird with a yellow belly. “Tomo, can I fish in the river?” asked the bird. Tomo said, “Sure, go ahead; there are lots of fish.” The bird dipped its beak and took a fish and flew away. Tomo lay snugly in the river undisturbed because he was the king of the river.
