Yamraj, the god of death, ruled the city named Yam. He was fond of dance and music. Once, he held a grand event of music and dance. He invited several kings. A beautiful dancer named Tilottama caught Yamraj’s attention. Soon, Tilottama gave birth to a child. The child grew up to become a ferocious demon named Anala. His voice had the power to twitch earth while his eyes could emit fire! He created havoc around the world. People used to run for their lives, on seeing him. He conquered all the three worlds quite easily. The entire universe was terrorised by him. The gods were not spared either. There was terror all around. Indra tried to defeat Analasur several times, but in vain. The worried gods approached Vishnu for help. Vishnu said, “Only Ganesha can help us in this case, so let us worship him.”
