The Swan and the Kite

In a faraway land, there lived a pair of Kites and a pair of Swans. They all had melodious voices and everyone in the jungle loved to hear them sing. Many animals would come from far and wide to listen to them.
The Kites and the Swans loved their voices and took special care of them. They practised many songs every day and sang in front of an audience on special occasions.
One day, as the birds were practising their songs, they heard another animal singing at a distance. They decided to go and see who was singing.
They reached the nearby tree and saw a Horse singing. He had a pleasant voice. One Kite said, “Wow! He has a beautiful voice. Why don’t we ask him to join us? He will make our show special. What do you think about this?”
A Swan thought for a while and said, “Wait! His voice is melodious. Why don’t we try and copy his style? Our audience will also look for variety in our music.” The Kites immediately agreed. They heard the Horse for a while and then came back to their tree.
For days, the Swans and the Kites practised to sing in the voice of the Horse. They had to try hard as the Horse’s voice was loud and coarse. As they both had thin and slender voices, they lost their own voices in the process.

On the day of the show, the Kites and the Swans looked tired and could barely speak. As they went on the stage, they could not sing at all. They also forgot all the music that they had rehearsed.
From then on, none came to listen to them.
