The Poor Man and his Friend in Need

Once a rich man became destitute and approached his friend for assistance. His friend lent him five hundred dinars to start a trading business. With a prior experience as a jeweller, the man bought gold with the money to sell them off at the jewel-market.

While he was sitting, three men came and asked him for his father. He told them he was deceased. They asked him to prove he was his only son. He then called upon the people of the marketplace and was proven right. The men then left him a pair of saddles containing thirty thousand dinars, jewels and bullions of high value. Later, a woman came to his shop for gold jewels with five hundred dinars and paid three thousand dinars for them. Delighted, he took five hundred dinars to his friend whom he owed. But his friend refused to take back his money, and handed over a paper to be read only after he had reached home. When he returned home, he opened the paper that read that those three men were his sire and uncles, and that woman was his mother, whom he had sent to check his modesty and he won his heart.
